Metafields

Show different ingredients, badges and details on each product by connecting blocks to metafields.

Celestine works without any custom metafields. But several product blocks become much more useful when each product has its own content. That's what metafields are for.

Connect a block

  1. 1In the admin, go to Settings → Custom data → Products → Add definition and create the metafield (for example custom.key_ingredients, multi-line text).
  2. 2Fill it in on each product page in the admin, or import the values with a product CSV.
  3. 3In the theme editor, open the product template, select the block (for example Ingredients) and click the Connect dynamic source icon next to the field.
  4. 4Choose your metafield. The block now shows each product's own value; products with an empty metafield hide it.

Star ratings

Product cards and the Rating block read Shopify's standard review metafields (reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count). Most review apps fill these automatically. Without reviews, no stars are shown.

Badges without metafields

For simple labels on product cards, use tags instead: a product tagged badge:Limited shows a "Limited" badge. See Theme settings.
